Therapies

A stroke from atrial fibrillation is no fate.

There is an efficient therapy to prevent a stroke from atrial fibrillation, which is anticoagulation of the blood. Clinical trials show a stroke risk reduction of up to 70%.

If nevertheless a stroke happens ( there is no 100% risk reduction), the severity will be strongly reduced in the presence of adequate blood anticoagulation.

Strokes accompanied by atrial fibrillation show the severest consequences.

Therapies

Once atrial fibrillation has been diagnosed, an adequate therapy depends on several facts, e.g. high blood pressure, other cardiac diseases. Which therapy has to be applied, can be taken from the guidelines of the European and American societies of cardiology. The guidelines can be loaded down from www.escardio.org or here.
