Every body can be a victim
Basically every body can be hit by a stroke. But certain groups of people are at a higher risk for stroke than the average population. These are people at higher age, with high blood pressure. Also people with diabetes or those who have atrial fibrillation. The risk for stroke is even higher in those people if they are smokers, don’t do any sports or have overweight. Endurance athletes are also at a higher risk for stroke. In addition high cholesterol increases the risk for stroke independently.
Are there different types of stroke
There are two major types of stroke. The first is caused by blocked blood flow and oxygen to the brain. This is called an ischemic stroke. They account for nearly 88 percent of all strokes. The second type is caused by bleeding into or around the brain. This is called the hemorrhagic stroke. Hemorrhagic strokes account for about 12 percent of strokes. Bleeding is usually caused by high bloog pressure. The higher the pressure the higher the risk.
